The ‘ME’ in US

Have we ever wondered how much emphasis we give to ourselves? If there was a scale to measure it, we would have rocked it. We love to emphasize on our achievements, our skills, the things that we are good at doing and so on. In other words, we want others to think highly of what we do and what we have achieved. We never miss a chance to prove that we are better than others. We love to showcase our beauty, our talents, every little thing that we can boast about. The movement we achieve something, we put that on our social media handles, in order to draw people’s attention to ourselves. There is nothing wrong in showing the world of the things we find valuable, but when we give this notion that we are important, we highlight the fact that we, our talents, our achievements are more important than the purpose God has in creating us. However, Jesus’ life exhibits exactly the opposite of what we usually do.

Have we ever thought why the risen Jesus did not just show Himself to the High Priest and to Pilate and to all Israel? That would have certainly sealed the deal, wouldn’t it? He chose, however, to reveal Himself only to His followers. If the risen Jesus had appeared on top of the Temple, it would be quite obvious that people would have known that He is the real KING. He is someone who is higher than the people who tried to destroy him. BUT He did not, for Him the purpose God had in sending Him to earth was greater than Himself. The message of God was more important than proving people wrong.

What is God’s purpose in giving us the gifts and success that He has given us, is it to bring us praise or fulfill His mission?
